The Best Intentions

The beginning of the new year is a great time to examine and reset our goals. Setting your intentions is a powerful way to manifest what you most want out of life. Philosophers in ancient India wrote," You are what your deepest desire is. As your desire is, so is your intention. As your intention is, so is your will. As your will is so is your deed. As your deed is, so is your destiny." The bible puts it more succinctly, " Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also." Matthew 6:21.

We must be clear on what we most desire. Thoughts become actions, actions become the fabric of our character and our lives. Take time to clear your mind in a quiet, restful place. Spend time contemplating what your priorities are. Jot down whatever comes to mind. Take about 10 min thinking and writing. Look at your list and consolidate it into three to five main priorities. I like to choose one from each major focus of my life: spirituality, family and career.

Under each major goal set sub goals to create a road map towards success. Make a game plan by coming up with three concrete steps you can act on immediately whether it be habit building, creating a plan for paying down debt or setting aside time for continued education or skill building. Set a time in your calendar for checking in with your game plan each month to evaluate and refocus.

Be aware of things, people and situations that steal energy or cause loss of focus. The more we are aware of what affects us, the more we can control what affects us.

Setting intentions is powerful. It can refine what is most important in our lives, clearing away distractions, unrest, and discontentment. Invite gratitude in, make way for change, manifest your dreams.
