Nancy Ramsey comes from a family of Alexandria artists who found time to create art while balancing full time jobs. Her grandfather, a butcher, was the first family member to take classes at The Art League in the 1950’s. After taking art classes throughout high school and college, Nancy has continued to study with The Art League through Alexandria’s Torpedo Factory, for over 25 years while teaching in Fairfax County public Schools.
Nancy values exploring the natural world and often references nature and the human form within her art, Nancy begins much of her art working with a model or en plein air. She uses art as a way of processing her world and recreating life’s experiences.
Her medium of choice has evolved over the years from watercolorto mixed water media. In the last several years she has been exploring acrylics. Some work explores including other papers and collage elements. Nancy’s work often includes strong color and uses line for emphasis and clarity.
